Gia đình PCS thân mến,

Happy Monday!  It is going to feel good to have a full week of school this week.  We had some unexpected snow/ice days lately and are happy to have some warmer weather this week.  We wanted to share a PBL project that our Kindergarten classes have been working on.  Here is a description from some of our Kindergarten teachers!

Kindergarten is currently in the beginning stages of a PBL unit all about the zoo. The St. Louis Zoo is expanding, and we want to be a part of that! Our students are exploring how to design a zoo that is safe for all types of animals.Through this project students will apply their knowledge of 2D shapes that we have learned in math to design their habitats. Students will also have a chance to practice addition as they create an addition problem to explain how many animals are in their habitat. Students will also have the opportunity to practice their teamwork and writing skills to write an opinion piece about why the animals their group has chosen should live together in our zoo.

The first step was to each pick a couple of animals we would like to see in the STL Zoo expansion and research what those animals need to survive and have a thriving habitat. We had a lot of questions about zoo animals and our students decided that it would be best to contact an expert. Last week a zookeeper that works with primates came to talk to a few classes and shared about life at the zoo as well as answer all of our questions. She even gave us a beautiful piece of artwork that was hand painted by one of the gorillas at the zoo. Ask your kindergartner what animals they are researching for their zoo habitat!
