Middle School Newsletter March 7th 2022
Having lived in St. Louis my entire life I should have known better when I thought we were past cold wintery weather! Hopefully, this week is the end of it! This week brings us to the end of the third quarter and offers an opportunity for teachers and families to sit down to discuss student progress during conferences. All conferences will be student led and in person. If you prefer a virtual conference please make sure to let your child’s teacher know when you schedule their conference.
Third quarter conferences will give you and your child a clear understanding on how they are doing in their classes as well as have any questions or concerns addressed. Please make every effort to attend your child’s conference.
COVID Update:
Spring is definitely in the air and we couldn't be more excited to put the crazy weather and potential for snow days behind us. We know February gave everyone a challenging few weeks! Figuring out childcare and adding to the inconsistent learning schedule our kids and teachers have been working through the last couple months while riding out the COVID surge made it one for the books. We continue to be thankful for the flexibility and grace we have all given to each other during this time.
As we draw near to our Spring Break we wanted to give families a heads up that we will be making a shift in our masking policy when we return. Effective 3.28.22. PCS will move to a “mask situational” campus. What this means is masks will no longer be required in any of the school or office buildings as long as our numbers remain low. Now that the city mandate has not been renewed plus the continued decline in the cases we have seen at PCS we are in a good position to make this shift. We will send out a more detailed update about specific threshold numbers and our updated safety plan in the coming weeks. For now we are asking in the short time leading up to our break that you work with us to prepare your kids for this change. Teachers will be having class meetings with students to help answer questions and let kids know about this shift. Please remember everyone has a different comfort level and opinion around mask wearing and we want to ensure that all of our students feel comfortable and confident at school whether they choose to wear a mask or not. This is a school community strong in character education and tied to our core values of respect, responsibility and caring so it is critical that we continue to model that for our students.
We are hopeful we can relieve a little pressure for our PCS community and can start turning the page on the pandemic!

active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running,
the program encourages boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social
health, in addition to their physical health. Twice a week for seven weeks, two trained
volunteer coaches lead an elementary or middle school team through practice. Designed
to amplify confidence, self-expression, and respect for others, each practice includes a
lesson from the Let Me Run curriculum that incorporates running, games and activities.
The season culminates in a 5k race festival that celebrates the boys’ personal growth.
