Middle School Newsletter 11.7.2022

This weekend I found myself pausing for a moment so that I could take in all the beauty that fall has brought us. During this moment I also stopped to reflect on the first quarter.

It is so very easy to get stuck in the negative or what I like to call the “weeds” when you are faced with struggles and hardships. I have also come to acknowledge that among the weeds are many successes or “wildflowers”. It is so incredibly easy to look past the wildflowers during these times.

Last week I had the opportunity to chat with small groups of students and staff about their wildflower for the week. I want to take this opportunity to share a few of their responses:

  • 6th grade completed a digital escape room that most students couldn’t finish in the class period, but they went into other classes and during free time asked to finish and did! Then they came back and told us all about it.

  • Middle school hearing screening went really well!

  • Mrs. Abel shared that during her first week back to work after maternity leave she felt so supported and welcomed back by staff and kiddos!

  • 7th grade math classes have been running their own number talks as we are practicing empowerment! It’s so cool to hear them ask deeper questions about math and lead the talk.

  • In drama class Ms. Cruse had several kids volunteer for improv games who usually refuse to perform in front of the class. She was so happy that she found something that appealed to them!

  • A team member shared that our team has been so supportive in covering duties and reaching out during a family emergency. I have not had to worry about balancing it all. She is so thankful for our crew.

  • 8th graders are getting excited for their upcoming field trip! Students are puting a lot of effort into their "job application" for the trip.

  • Morning community time has been effective in building a strong climate and culture in the classroom.

What I know to be true, is once we take the time to think about and acknowledge the positive moments in our lives we find that there are many positive moments that are actually taking place. There is absolute power in one’s ability to see the good in even during our most difficult times. I believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that your child’s middle school team is the most hardworking, understanding and compassionate group of individuals that I have the privilege to work with everyday. They are dedicated to providing your child with the very best education possible.

I want to thank you each and every one of you for your grace, understanding and partnership.  As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
