Elementary School Newsletter - September 27th, 2021
Our staff just attended our first professional development day on Friday. Team members went through some safety training and dug into iReady data. Their goal is to take the initial diagnostic data to help guide instruction and intervention in math and language arts this first semester.
Martha Gray who is our Lead Therapist shared this linked article. As a parent myself, I found it to be helpful. I especially liked the part about teaching emotional coping skills. This is a critical component for our 2nd-5th graders as we adapt to in-person learning. Remember that most of our students were fully virtual or were in the building only a couple of days a week so it is difficult for our young learners to adapt back to 5-days a week. We are making progress!! https://psychcentral.com/lib/how-to-support-students-returning-to-school#parental-support
Some teachers, specialists, and administrators are meeting after hours for a voluntary book club. Some of us have been getting together for several months and have been reading various books to help support our craft. Our current selection is Cultivating Genius by Gholdy Muhammad. We hope to take away some valuable ways to be culturally responsive within Literacy.
Attached are our most up to date COVID case numbers.
We are midway through the first quarter and I've been very impressed with the students' hard work they've been putting in so far. I'm proud of how our first month went and I'm looking forward to continued improvement the rest of this semester. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas. We are here for your family. Thanks to all of you who make an impact for our kids!
