Middle School Newsletter - November 1st, 2021
This weekend I found myself pausing for a moment so that I could take in all the beauty that fall has brought us. During this moment I also stopped to reflect on the first quarter. To be honest, this year may go down as one of the hardest years in education (for so many reasons).
It is so very easy to get stuck in the negative or what I like to call the “weeds” when you are surrounded by struggles and hardships. I have also come to acknowledge that among the weeds are many successes or “wildflowers”. It is so incredibly easy to look past the wildflowers during these times.
Last week I had the opportunity to chat with small groups of students and staff about their wildflower for the week. I want to take this opportunity to share a few of their responses:
A student shared that his conference went REALLY well. He shared with me what he believes he needs to accomplish in the second quarter to get the grades he knows he is capable of earning.
One teacher shared that her students were confident and honest during student-led conferences.
Kids are adjusting back to being consistently (thank goodness) in school.
High engagement during guidance lessons.
Watching teachers laugh with their students.
A student and teacher were able to mend an unsteady relationship and agreed that they both could do better together.
Morning community time has been effective in building a strong climate and culture in the classroom.
Guest speakers coming into the classroom to share their experiences and expertise.
Wonderful meetings with parents who are partnering with the school so that their child is successful this year.
What I know to be true, is once we take the time to think about and acknowledge the positive moments in our lives we find that there are many positive moments that are actually taking place. There is absolute power in one’s ability to see the good in even during our most difficult times. I believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that your child’s middle school team is the most hardworking, understanding and compassionate group of individuals that I have the privilege to work with every day. They are dedicated to providing your child with the very best education possible.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your grace, understanding, and partnership during this time. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
